Q:What does IMEI stand for?

A: IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity, it is used to identify the handset and is similar to an analogue ESN.

Q: What does MSN stand for?

A.MSN stands for Mechanical Serial Number. It also indicates the model, data of manufacturing  & serial number of the phone.

Q: Where can I find the IMEI and MSN on my cellular telephone?

If you are using a portable phone, the IMEI and MSN can be found on the back of the telephone. Simply slide the battery off the phone and the IMEI and MSN will be displayed on the back of the phone. For transportable and installed (mobile) telephones, the ESN/IMEI and MSN will be located on the back of the transceiver.

Q: What is a PIN Code?

This code is a security feature on SIM cards for GSM and It is provided by the service provider / network operator to SIM card. Users can reset this code.

Q: What is a PHONE LOCK?

It is a type of user defined security code. It can be used to prevent unauthorized use of the mobile phone and at the same time user can receive the inward calls. Factory default code = 1234, user can define a code and has to use the defined code to unlock and use it for outgoing calls.

Q: What is a Security Code?

This is a 6 digit code used for altering call restriction levels or changing the units unlock code. Factory preset = 000000.

Q: What if 'PHONE FAILED SEE SUPPLIER' appears on my screen?

This message indicates that something internally is wrong with the phone and it will need to go to an authorised Motorola Service Agent. (link to page service centers)

Q: Who should I contact if my phone is lost or stolen?

Q: How do I get service for my phone?

Q: What if a foreign language appears on my screen?

Before being able to change a language back you need to be at the Network Sign On. This will still be in English. Often phones in a foreign language are also locked. If the network Sign On does not appear after you have entered the SIM pin, then try the unlocking procedure as well. 

Note: This procedure may be different for the new models

Q: What if I forget LOCK CODE or SECURITY CODE?

You have to bring the mobile phone to the Nearest Service.

Q: Can I use my cellular telephone in other countries?

You should contact your service provider to determine the steps necessary in making arrangements for using your cellular phone in a particular country. Different countries operate under different cellular systems, and some countries require you to register with them prior to your visit. It is best to contact them before traveling to make any necessary arrangements for equipment and line service.

If you will not be using a Singaporean SIM card while overseas, contact Customer Service before traveling.

Q: My phone is roaming, what does this mean?

This is an airtime feature for obtaining service outside of your local area. Contact your airtime provider for more information.

Q: Why do the signal strength bars vary between different phones?

A.The algorithm used to convert the incoming radio signal into the displayed signal strength indicator varies from time to time as we upgrade the software. For this reason, two phones set side by side might display different levels of signal strength.

Q: What is Cell Broadcast?

A. All phones are capable of receiving Cell Broadcast messages such as weather, traffic updates etc. Check with your cellular service provider for availability.Currently the Vodaphone network use this option to display the suburb that the customer is in.These messages will not be displayed if the Cell Broadcast option is switched off.To change the status:

  1. Messages Menu - this could either be an envelope key, or if no envelope key, the "Messages" Menu option will be one of the main menu selections.

  2. Scroll using hash/right arrow key until Cell Broadcast appears on the screen.

  3. Press "OK".

  4. Using the hash/right arrow key select ON or OFF and press "OK".

Q: What are SMS (Short Message Service) Messages?

All current Motorola / Nokia / Siemens phones are capable of receiving messages. SMS is a network and subscription dependent feature. Check with your cellular service provider for availability.

Q: Does my phone have CLI (Caller Line Identification) or CND (Caller Number Display)?

A. This is a network and subscription dependent feature that is supported by most of the phones. Check with your cellular service provider for availability. Those phones that support the Alpha Tag will display the persons name if the number that is calling is already stored in the phone book if it is a CLI/CND capable phone.

Q: What happens if the ENVELOPE icon flashes?

This indicates that you've received a message. (Please note that SMS is a network and subscription dependent feature and may not be available in all areas.). User can go to “Received Message” in menu & read.

Q: How do I activate my Voice Mail? Call Forwarding? PINCode? or Call Waiting?

These are all network and subscription dependent features. You need to contact your airtime provider.

Q: How do I store an Emergency Number?

First, verify with your Service Provider the Emergency Number to be used in your area. Then store the number as any other number into memory as per the User Manual instructions for your model of phone. Keep in mind, however, that emergency dialing services are accessible only where network service is available and that the emergency number may change from area to area.

Q: What if BLOCKED or LOCKED appears on my screen?

·  BLOCKED
If a phone has BLOCKED on the screen it means that the customer has entered their pin number for their SIM incorrectly three times.
 To open it customer should know the PUC (Pin Unlock Code) number.  For further details contact “Nearest Service Center”

GSM

  1. Factory preset = 123# or 1234#

  2. Ifthis does not work then the phone needs the services of a Motorola Test SIM card. User will need to visit an authorised Motorola Service Agent.

Q: I have a GSM StarTACTM phone and wish to see the display without answering the call, in order to use CLI. How can I do this?

The phone has a feature called 'Key Answer Only'. When this feature is enabled, the keypad cover can be opened without answering the call. The user can then note the CLI display, and the call can still be answered by pressing a key. The keypad cover will still end the call when it is closed.

Q: What does 'Busy - try later' mean on my GSM phone?

This appears when the phone is trying to establish contact with the system, and the user tries to recall a number from memory at the same time. Once the phone has established contact, the user will be able to recall numbers as normal.
